FireWise Community of Dawson Ranch
Dawson Ranch FireWise Data
If you reside in Dawson Ranch you live in a WUI…or a Wildland Urban Interface. The safety, relative to wildfire, of the citizens of Dawson Ranch is a shared responsibility between the homeowners, the HOA or association, and the local, county, state, and federal governments. However, the primary responsibility for your home remains at the owner level.
In 2014, Dawson Ranch in collaboration with the Cañon City Fire Protection District, created a Wildlife Protection Plan. This plan is intended to be updated every five years and so we have a little bit of catching up to do.
Paul Tanner, HOA Board Member, is re-starting the idea of creating a FireWise Community within Dawson Ranch. The first step to that re-start is to create a core group of residents of perhaps 3-5 people who want to get involved in this initiative and work alongside community partners. If you are interested in getting involved in this core group, send an email to Paul at dawsonhoa@gmail.com.
There is much to learn and the primary benefits to you as a homeowner in Dawson Ranch is to be prepared for when, not if, a fire will hit our area. FireWise certification can offer education and perhaps even make it easier to get homeowners insurance coverage that is all-of-a-sudden becoming a challenge for our residents.
